The Wonderful World of Books
For the past day or so I’ve been in a bit of a funk that I haven’t been able to shake. So this evening I went on a walk around campus that ending in me visiting the university’s library. I ended up picking up ‘The Complete Original Illustrated Sherlock Holmes’ with all of Sidney Paget’s original artwork. But, as I walked down the aisles of books, I felt more at home there than many of the places that I’ve lived over the years. Throughout my life books have, sadly, been one of the few constants in my life. It never failed that whenever things in my world were getting too much for me to handle I could hole myself in my room and read about fictional people and their fictional worlds that were so much better than mine. I still surprises me to this day that I still have the same relationship with books as I did when I was younger. They are some of the truest friends I’ve had and are always there whenever I need them. I hope that this never changes.
I realize that this makes me sound a bit like a pathetic nerd but so be it.
